It all started when I tried the 9 to 5 (or more like 7 to 7 in the start-up world) and it left me feeling empty. I was just going through the motion and living for the weekend - filling it with wild nights out, only to dread the following Monday. I had amazing coworkers, great friends, a beautiful apartment - and yet… I felt empty. I was overeating, overindulging, and over drinking to compensate for the emptiness I felt.
What was the most confusing for me, was the fact that this is what I have been working towards my whole life. I realized I was being funneled into what society wanted me to be. Living someone else’s dream… the American dream. I couldn’t take it anymore - so I quit, bought a one way ticket to Europe and said my goodbyes. I had no plan of action and no destination. I just knew I wanted to get out. So in need of money and uncertain of what to do next, I did what any millennial does best, I googled “best way to travel while making money” and found myself teaching English online.
For the next four years, I found myself galavanting around Asia, Europe, and South America. At times, I worked in hostels for free rent, backpacked to different co-working/co-living spaces, worked for pub crawls, roughed it with the occasional 26-hour bus ride, and even worked on a cruise ship for six months selling fine art. It was far from perfect and glamorous, but it was magical!
I was constantly forcing myself out of my comfort zone. Doing things I would never dare because I felt alive for the first time. I regained my power and decided not to let fear dictate my actions. I chose love. Loving myself fearlessly, loving strangers and new cultures. Loving the unknown and endless possibilities. I was finally living for myself. Not worried about what others might think or about the next year or month ahead! I was completely present - filled with joy and gratitude.
Now, I find myself back in the startup world. Still trying to navigate through life
This inspired me to help other women live their authentic self. To give them the tools and empower them to be bold and fearless in their pursuit for purpose and passion. Stop justifying your dreams to others and looking for permission. Find your soul-print and do what makes you feel alive.
